PORTLAND, Ore. – TOUGHER, a women’s workwear company, and Rogue Ales & Spirits have released a limited-edition good cause beer, the Build TOUGHER Ale. TOUGHER Founder Stacey Gose worked with the brewers at Rogue to brew this special beer, and $1 of every pint sold will go to Girls Build, a Portland-based nonprofit that helps girls 8-14 explore a range of skills from woodworking and drum building to concrete and sheet metal work, as well as learn the basics of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, and electricity.
“We want to raise money for Girls Build as well as promote their incredible work and encourage more of the Portland community to get involved,” said Rogue President Brett Joyce.
Gose has been involved with farming and backyard do-it-yourself projects throughout her life and has seen the number of women in these industries slowly increase. However, these women are largely ignored as a consumer group, which inspired her to found TOUGHER.
“I started TOUGHER because the trades are still considered ‘men’s work’ even though more and more women are becoming involved in these jobs every day,” Gose explained. “If we can encourage young women and girls to be interested in these industries, which is exactly what Girls Build does, there’s no telling where their creativity and determination can take them.”
Build TOUGHER Ale is a red ale with a fruity-sweet aroma, notes of roasted malt and toffee, and a hopped citrus finish. The beer is available at all of Rogue’s pubs in Oregon through the month on March.
