History:
Grand Teton Brewing, the first modern “micro” brewery in the state of Wyoming, was founded in 1988 by Charlie and Ernie Otto as Otto Brothers’ Brewing Company. A year later, the small brewhouse secured their malt beverage manfuacturer’s permit, Wyoming’s first permit issued in 35 years. Soon after, the brewery’s flagship amber “Teton Ale” was presented to local draught establishments.
Charlie Otto is credited with introducing the modern, 64-ounce glass jug growler in 1989. Breweries now sell “Growlers” nationwide.
With demand rising, ground was broken for a new brewery at the base of Teton Pass in Victor, Idaho during the spring of 1998.The proximity to locally-grown barley and Northwest hops, as well as nearby Teton glacier water, made for an excellent location.
In the fall of 2000, the brewery’s name was changed to Grand Teton Brewing to portray a more regional and recognizable marketing approach, while still maintaining a proud history and tradition.
In April of 2009 Charlie sold the brewery to Steve and Ellen Furbacher. Since then, the Furbacher’s have made significant changes to grow production from 4,900 barrels to 10,000 barrels.
