Global Beer Network Launches Belgian Brewed Silly Sour Ale Across the US

Middleton, Mass. — (October 2013) — Sour beers have been a part of life in Belgium for centuries, but in 2013, sour beers are hotter than ever thanks to their delicious sour/tart flavor. Global Beer Network, the exclusive U.S. importer for more than 60 Belgian beer labels has launched Silly Sour Ale, a new beer blended with 87 percent sour ale and 13 percent fresh saison. The result is a delicate malt with a striking green apple sourness followed by a creamy sour finish.

“Silly Sour captures the best of the Belgium’s old and new beer worlds, and the taste is spectacular,” said Steve Villani, president of Global Beer Network. “We say that there is power in sour, and Silly Sour provides a great, approachable sour beer that is a first of its kind.”

With just 5.5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), Silly Sour has an acidic, yet warm tone that inspires the drinker to taste more and experience all the flavors.

Silly Sour Ale is brewed in Wallonia, a region of southern Belgium known as the birthplace of the Saison beer style. The original style of saison (meaning season) is a blend of two or three beers, with one of them being a slightly sour aged beer.

Historically, saison was a Belgian beer brewed on farms in the winter and consumed during the summer by farm workers. Each farm had its own brew style which was intended to provide workers with hydration due to the lack of potable water. The ale had to be strong enough to prevent spoilage, but not too strong to slow the farm work. Silly Sour takes this inspiration to provide beer lovers with an entirely new level of fresh sour beer flavor in a chestnut-colored ale.

Silly Sour is the latest from Brasserie de Silly (Brasserie is the French word for brewery). The brewery is located in Silly, a very small farmer’s village that got its name from the little stream, the Sille, flowing through the center of the village.

“Brewing sour beers is very difficult and unpredictable,” added Villani. “With Silly Sour, Brasserie de Silly defines modern sour beer brewing and does it perfectly. More than ever, we see that beer drinkers want something fresh and flavorfully unique. Silly Sour does all that.”

The suggested retail price for new Silly Sour Ale is $11.99 for a four-pack of 11.2 oz. bottles or $9.99 for a 750 ML bottle. Silly Sour is available at craft beer retailers across the country.
