The role of the New England Sales Manager is to oversee all aspects of the Sales Department including wholesaler management, distribution growth, execution of marketing campaigns, promotional event activities and leading an ever-growing sales team in our New England territories. This is a customer-facing role, representing a large portfolio of craft beer and spirits so a strong knowledge of and passion for this industry and product line is a must.  

The ideal candidate is a hardworking, self-motivated, creative, professionally mature team player with a positive attitude, sense of humor and confident leadership.  This person will have an extensive background in the craft beer and/or spirits industry, specifically in wholesaler management, customer service, forecasting, retail execution, brand building and mentorship. The Sales Manager must be someone who values communication, innovation, inclusion, sustainability, community, teamwork and striving for excellence. Our Brewstillery (Brewery-meets-Distillery) is about to undergo a huge renovation that will not only expand our entertainment areas to build up Newport Craft as a go-to destination for locals and large-scale events but exponentially increase our production output with a full facility layout and equipment upgrade. With that said, this position will have the exciting role of working with an endless amount of potential of what our Sales Department can and will become. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible to grow volume of all brands in the Newport Craft portfolio throughout all areas of distribution 

  • Direct Supervisor of sales team. Monitor progress, training and support achievement towards quarterly goals 

  • Act as main point of contact for all wholesalers, sales team, sales related sponsors and partnerships 

  • Manage wholesalers on forecasting, orders, inventory, depletions, pricing and proper execution of in-market activities and campaigns 

  • Conduct monthly and quarterly Action Planning Meetings with all wholesalers and upper management teams 

  • Lead the ABP process and education/training on all new product releases with wholesalers and sales reps 

  • Strategically plan annual and quarterly programming with action items and timelines to hit monthly goals 

  • Prepare presentations, pull reports and analyze/interpret the data to validate and support sales efforts 

  • Create and supervise wholesaler incentive programs, focus periods and brand education opportunities 

  • Accompany sales team in the market and maintain relationships with key accounts and hospitality groups 

  • Empower sales team to work hard and hit goals with ongoing training, reviews and development of individual and team skills 

  • Support sales team in the ordering, execution and evaluation of account’s events and promotional activities 

  • Work with the Marketing Team to identify emerging trends and opportunities to build marketing campaigns, advertising and retail displays 

  • Support Marketing Department in the development and implementation of campaigns into the market 

  • Secure features, displays, BOM’s and partnerships with key on and off premise accounts 

  • Coordinate product for events and sponsorships including key events such as the Newport Folk and Newport Jazz Festivals 

  • Update marketing materials and sales tools such as Key Message Decks, sell sheets and tasting cards 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • In depth knowledge of and passion for craft beer, spirits and hospitality industry 

  • At least 5 years of experience in a sales management position within the beverage industry

  • Experience with wholesaler/distributor management

  • Proven track record managing and growing both revenue and profitability 

  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to lead sales team to hit goals and grow personally and professionally 

  • Strong time management, elite organization and meticulous attention to detail 

  • Clear communication, listening and delegation skills with a positive, team work / can-do attitude 

  • Ability to prepare sales presentations, create incentive programs, pull reports and analyze the data  

  • Experience with CRM software such as Repsly, Karma, VIP, Neilsen and EKOS, a plus 

  • Event management or event coordination experience preferred and helpful, but not required 

  • Bachelor's Degree Required, preferably in areas of Business Management, Marketing and/or Communications 

  • TIPS Certification required; Cicerone Certified Beer Server (Level 1) preferred. BONUS if Cicerone Level 2 

Physical Requirements / Schedule: 

  • Monday thru Friday. 70/30 split between office hours at the Brewery and on the road  

  • A reliable vehicle and driver’s license 

  • Must be willing and able to drive to accounts in MA/RI/CT 

  • Represent the brand at off-site events and promotions (weekend availability when needed) 

  • Ability to lift and move 50lbs and stand on feet for hours at a time
