We are searching for a driven, experienced, and entrepreneurial Head Cidermaker in Gig Harbor to continue to wow our customers with high quality creative hard ciders.

The Head Cidermaker will be both the leader and the hands-on production cidermaker for Locust Cider, in our Gig Harbor cidery. High quality, consistent, high yield cider production, creating a welcoming environment, creative source-driven product development, and becoming the resident cider expert are the key goals for this role.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES                                                             

  • Manage inventory and purchasing of fruit, juice, and other cider ingredients, receive tankers and juice in other forms
  • Manage (hands on) fermentation end to end from receiving fruit to final filtration, and every step in between
  • Operate and maintain ferment and blend tanks
  • Operate and maintain crossflow filter
  • Perform and manage finished cider carbonation and preparation for packaging
  • Maintain master recipes and blend logs
  • Manage the fermentation and blending production plan and communicate to packaging manager and sales
  • Communicate and coordinate with Packaging Manager to ensure quality cider availability for packaging plans
  • Perform quality checks throughout WIP and maintain QC guidelines
  • Continuously maintain and improve knowledge of cidermaking and the cider industry
  • Identify and develop new sources for fruit, juice, and ingredients
  • Maintain cidermaking logs in Ekos ERP system, responsible for all Ekos entries during the cidermaking process
  • Work with Sales to communicate production plans, and changes as they occur, to result in high order fulfillment
  • Continuously improve, maintain, and perform equipment preventative maintenance plans
  • Maintain supply of spare parts and supplies to keep equipment running at all times
  • Work closely with the warehouse and facility manager to ensure very high on time in full shipping to customers
  • Maintain excellent facility condition and cleanliness



  • 3+ years experience in a cidermaking role, or in winemaking or brewing with a passion for cider
  • Knowledge of fermentation process and chemistry, common problems and solutions
  • Basic knowledge of fluid flow, pump operation, and pressure vessels
  • Works well in a small team environment
  • Responsible attitude around alcohol
  • Able to lift and move a keg short distances
  • Physically able to work in a variety of environments (hot, cold, indoor/out)
