About Helltown: Since our inception in 2011, Helltown Brewing has been obsessed with brewing great beer. Our main production facility is in Export, PA with additional taprooms throughout the Western PA region. We focus on brewing a variety of classic European and American style beers ranging from an English Brown Ale to American IPAs using authentic ingredients and proven techniques. We are currently seeking individuals with the desire to rebelliously buck trends and help brew great beer as we continue to expand our company and brand. 

About the Position: Helltown Brewing is looking to add a Brewer who will perform a variety of production related tasks at our main facility in Export, PA. We are looking for a hardworking, fun loving, craft beer enthusiast who is willing to perform a variety tasks to support our growing brand. This position will be primarily responsible for operating our 30bbl brewhouse as well as other tasks like cellaring and packaging. This is a full-time position (shifts may vary based on production schedule) that offers a competitive salary, health and dental insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, weekly beer allowances and a fast paced but laid-back work environment with room to grow within the company. 

 

Ideal Qualifications 

  • 1-3 years experience performing cellaring and wort production tasks in a commercial brewery 

  • BS in Brewing Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field, or industry certifications preferred but not required  

  • Strong understanding of brewing and fermentation science and processes 

  • Competent in using a computer and proficient in Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook 

  • Handle multiple demands and rapid change 

  • Able to operate safely and effectively with minimal supervision 

  • Skilled in critical thinking and problem solving 

  • Willingness to fill in other job duties as necessary 

  • Ability to perform sensory analysis and qualitative assessment of beer 

 

Primary Duties 

  • Brew House Operations – all responsibilities of wort production (including milling, mashing, boiling, grain-out, brewing house vessel clean-in-place (CIP), and accurate record keeping  

  • Effectively communicate with other production staff and management  

  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work area. 

  • Operate a forklift to move pallets of material, finished product, grain trailers etc 

Secondary Duties  

  • Cellar-related Operations – may be required to perform any and all fermentation and conditioning tasks, including fermenter/brite beer tank CIP & sanitation, monitoring fermentation, dry-hopping, yeast management, transferring beers between tanks, monitoring conditioning and detailed record keeping 

  • Perform basic maintenance tasks on pumps, valves, tanks, and process equipment 

  • Assist with keg cleaning, filling and canning line operation 

  • Perform sensory analysis and QA of active and finished beer

  • Participate in on or off-site events as needed (typically quarterly) 

  • Other duties as assigned
