Position Overview

The Head Brewer is responsible for the entire product creation process from wort production all the way to packaging in kegs, cans and bottles with rigorous attention to maintaining consistency and quality.  In addition to the production of our beer, the Head Brewer will manage other production personnel, scheduling and directing them in their daily activities. This is a hands-on brewing position with management responsibilities.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation and processing of wort and management of cellar functions
  • Plan, track and order necessary grain, hop, and chemical inventory
  • Manage the production schedule with input from ownership
  • Manage and direct other production staff – overseeing task completion and ensuring appropriate training and execution on all assigned responsibilities
  • Coordinate spent grain disposal with grain removal partner
  • Ensure all production areas, inside and outside the brewery are clean and safe
  • Focus on QC/QA to ensure consistent products that meet all release requirements
  • Interview/hire/train new production staff members as needed
  • Maintain brewery and production records in all relevant tools including spreadsheets, google calendar and Ekos
  • Manage preventative maintenance schedules for all production equipment
  • Function as the key decision-maker for production-side questions of quality, schedule and product
  • Manage and maintain production SOPs, ensuring relevancy and accuracy



  • 3+ years professional brewing experience in a production brewery in the role of assistant/lead brewer or higher
  • Possess a deep understanding of beer production in a professional brewing environment including proper material handling, yeast management and fermentation knowledge
  • Work safely with hot liquids, pressure and dangerous chemicals adhering to all prescribed safety protocols
  • Highly organized with an extreme attention to detail and adherence to process
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Google App Suite
  • Embrace a process of change and opportunities for continual improvement
  • Ability to quickly assess a situation and solve problems in a timely and effective manner
  • Must have a clean driving record


Physical Requirements

  • Lift and move 55 lbs. independently, and 170 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to work effectively in extreme temperatures from freezing to 100+F, in wet conditions and with continues, moderate noise levels
  • Work while predominantly standing for 8-10 hours per day
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in and around equipment and tight spaces with zero difficulty
  • Function at heights of up to 10 feet
  • Knowledge and ability to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional/advanced training or certification in the brewing sciences a plus
  • Prior experience successfully managing a small (2 to 3) person team
  • Experience with the operation of an atmospheric canning line
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform regular repairs and routine maintenance on equipment
  • Experience using Ekos Brewery Management software a plus
  • Knowledge of safe work operations, safety policies and procedures


Salary: Annual base salary commensurate with experience; annual discretionary bonus based on personal and company performance
