Second Line Brewing is a community-focused, neighborhood brewery located in the heart of New Orleans.   We are a small brewery with a big emphasis on brewing beers with our own flair, while still honoring the traditions of our craft.

We currently have an opening for a Cellar/Brewer Person with a solid dedication to mastering all aspects of the brewing industry - cellar, brewing, packaging, QA/QC, yeast wrangling and more.  

The ideal candidate will share our drive to push the boundaries of beer via new ingredients and processes with a spirit of adventure, camaraderie, humor, and inclusiveness.

Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a professional brewing environment (brewing, cellar, packaging, QA/QC) or a minimum of one year of experience in a professional brewing environment with completion of an appropriate brewing certificate program.  

Essential Duties:

  • Operating 15bbl steam brewhouse

  • Operating 5bbl direct fire brewhouse

  • Yeast handling, management, quality control

  • Cellaring duties

  • Packaging including the operation of a Wild Goose canning line

  • Basic quality control procedures including:

    • pH

    • Gravity measurements

    • HLP

    • Hygiene EnSURE touch ATP luminometer

    • qPCR

  • Maintaining a clean brewing environment

  • Executing preventative maintenance on ancillary equipment 

Requirements:

  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team

  • Professional experience in a brewing environment as previously described 

  • A strong passion for brewing and a desire to push the boundaries of experimental brewing

  • A firm understanding, or desire to learn, all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitization

  • Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills

  • Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime

  • Basic computer literacy including the use of spreadsheets

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl

  • Heavy physical work including climbing stairs, climbing into tanks, pulling hoses, etc.

  •   Willing to work in wet, hot and cold conditions

  • Willing to work in consistently loud environments

  • Ability to work safely with potentially hazardous chemicals

  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 lbs.
