AERONAUT is a craft brewery and taproom, founded in Somerville, MA. We brew a wide variety of innovative and scientifically driven craft beers, from traditional lagers to hazy IPAs and barrel-aged sours. Our goal is to share the excitement and enjoyment of adventurous, inspired beer with our community.

We recently expanded to a second location in Everett, MA, The AERONAUT CANNERY, where we have increased production capacity and opened a second taproom. We are an actively growing business with a team of dedicated and enthusiastic individuals.

 

Job Description

Aeronaut Brewing Company is seeking a passionate, hard-working individual to join our stellar production team at our brewery in Everett, MA. In this role, you will be a core contributor to our tight-knit brewteam at our primary production facility. As a Brewer, you will be responsible for operating our 30 bbl brewhouse, maintaining the high-quality of our product throughout the brewing process, and working with our Brewmaster and Brewery Director to improve our processes and products. These operations can only be achieved through teamwork, so this position requires clear communication, open-mindedness, and flexibility. Additionally, a strong foundation in sanitary cleaning skills is essential to success as our Brewer. 

This position is full-time (40 hours/week), located primarily at our facility in Everett, MA, and will report to the Brewery Operations Director. Work shifts are 8 hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend hours required. This position may be required to assist with warehouse/distribution duties, as well as occasional production shifts at our Somerville, MA location.

The Brewer will be expected to:

  • Fully operate our 30 bbl Everett brewhouse to brew a wide variety of beer styles

  • Assist in maintenance of all brewing, processing, and packaging equipment

  • Translate recipes from our small-scale prototype system onto our production system

  • Design new and modify existing recipes in conjunction with our Brewmaster

  • Perform cellaring operations, including CIP/SIP, transfers, yeast handling, dry hopping, etc

  • Assist in other production tasks as needed for brewteam functioning (i.e. keg cleaning/filling, material inventory, sensory analysis, etc)

  • Operate our in-house canning line when required

  • Occasionally brew on our 10 bbl Somerville brewhouse and 1 bbl prototype system

  • Take responsibility for general upkeep and cleanliness of the brewery

  • Maintain meticulous documentation using brew logs, brewery software, and SOPs

  • Participate in regular process review and troubleshooting, and enact appropriate preventative and corrective actions

  • Produce effective written communication with the team and participate in team meetings

  • Assist in training and reinforcement of best practices for new/junior team members

  • Set an example of adherence to our safety, quality, and sanitation standards

 

Qualifications

  • Two or more years experience as a brewer in a production brewery environment; OR two or more years experience as a cellar operator in production brewery environment, with a professional brewing degree (i.e. B.S. in Brewing/Food Science, Brewers Diploma/Certificate, or equivalent)

  • Knowledge in the following areas: raw ingredient selection/evaluation, recipe design/scaling, wort production and troubleshooting, fermentation process and analysis, all cellaring and packaging operations, quality assurance/control tests and metrics, basic brewery equipment maintenance, sensory analysis, and best safety and sanitary practices.

  • A curious mindset with an interest in self-education and professional development.

  • Excellent multitasking skills, with particular attention to details and time management.

  • Ability to work well on a diverse team with a range of skill sets, communication styles, and backgrounds.

In addition to the above professional qualifications, this position requires the following physical qualifications due to work conditions:

  • Able to lift 55 lbs to waist height unaided and 150 lbs with keg jockey assistance.

  • Capable of standing/walking for the majority of an 8-hr shift. Kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching in uncomfortable positions and for extended periods of time.

  • Comfortable working in a noisy, industrial environment in the presence of wetness, liquids at extreme hot and/or cold temperatures, and potentially dangerous chemicals (e.g. strong caustics and acids).
