Searching for a Head Brewer to join TALEA’s leadership team in Brooklyn, New York.
As the first female and veteran owned brewery in NYC, TALEA’s brewery and taproom in Williamsburg, Brooklyn opened in March 2021. Our hospitality-focused experience showcases our signature low-bitterness, fruit-forward beers with a focus on tours & tastings. With our 20 barrel brew house and pilot system, we will continue to brew and release crowd favorites as well as experimental small batch beers, all with the mission of creating easy-to-love beers for beer nerds and novices alike. Having been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Grub Street, Forbes, Business Insider, Thrillist, The Infatuation, Eater, Cheddar, Time Out, and more, TALEA is poised to make a mark on the beer industry.
TALEA is looking for a Head Brewer to join the leadership team and own all aspects of production from grain to glass. The ideal candidate is passionate about TALEA’s mission to expand the craft beer consumer base by creating totally different, easy-to-love beers. Quality, consistency, and creativity of our beers are of paramount importance. We are looking for a Head Brewer to lead our production as we rapidly scale in the coming years.
As a member of the nimble TALEA team, you’ll be joining a growing company in its early stage and will report directly to the Co-Founders. We value autonomy, ambition, grit, and an insatiable desire to exceed expectations while making phenomenal beer.
Responsible for the entire brewing and quality control processes, including but not limited to: scheduling, brewing, cellaring, packaging, recipe development, ingredient sourcing, yeast management, and troubleshooting. Operate both our 20 bbl 3 vessel brewhouse and our 1 bbl pilot system.
Continue to produce TALEA’s signature beers while pushing the boundaries of new fruit-forward, easy-to-love beers
Create and maintain a method of continuous improvement of beer quality and consistency by regularly taking feedback from management, brewery staff, taste panels, and customers
Expeditiously and thoroughly troubleshoot/correct any beer related issues and implement processes to prevent them from recurring
Maintain a roster of suppliers by assessing existing suppliers, searching for and onboarding new suppliers, keeping detailed records of any issues, performance, and ingredient quality
Manage raw materials and inventory control, working directly with the head of finance and operations
Track all purchases, inventory, and production in Ekos
Maintain meticulous records and brew logs
Establish, report on, and continuously improve upon agreed KPIs
Hire, manage, train, and develop a brewing staff, to include Assistant Brewer(s) and Cellar Staff
Develop and maintain SOPs
As a key member of the team, assist with VIP tours, TALEA events, and interactions with customers on a regular basis
The Ideal Candidate:

Must be willing and able to work a variable shift schedule that is dependent upon the operational needs of the brewery, which could include weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts
Has an insatiable desire to learn
Is fanatical about quality control, cleanliness, and safety
Collects, analyzes, and makes decisions based on data
4-5+ years commercial brewing experience on at least a 10bbl system
1-2+ years of management experience in a brewery environment
Experience with recipe development and experimentation
Experience brewing a wide variety of IPAs and Fruited Sours
Is forklift certified
Has excellent time management skills and is self-motivated
Knowledge of market trends and ability to create recipes capitalizing on those trends
