The Catawba Valley Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery, founded in 1999, in the Western North Carolina mountains. We are listed in the top 100 craft breweries by volume in the United States. It includes the Catawba Brewing, Palmetto Brewing and Twisp brands. Our main production facility and first tasting room are located in beautiful downtown Morganton, NC. A second major production facility and Palmetto tasting room is located on historic Huger Street in Charleston, SC. A Catawba small batch brewery, tasting room and private event space, in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood. We operate a pilot brewery, tasting room, and private event space in the Asheville South Slope; along with a second Asheville tasting room in Biltmore Village.

Lead a geographically diverse team of four head brewers, a logistics & customer service manager, a production & supply chain manager, a quality manager, a product line manager and a maintenance specialist to deliver quality products to 23 wholesale distributors and 5 internal tasting rooms
Job requires a regular presence at all four manufacturing facilities. A company car is provided. Candidate will base out of the Morganton, NC facility
Work closely with owners, Production & Supply Chain manager and other parts of the company to understand the three- to four-month outlook and set forecast volumes to guide production plan
Create, manage and prioritize all annual capital spending needs in a dynamic environment
Engage with Scheduler/Production/Supply Manager, Head Brewers, and Customer Service Manager, to oversee the development of production plans. Stay in close contact with team to ensure schedule is followed, or understand root cause and remedy if it is not
Oversee and manage packaging operations, warehouse, Quality, and logistics on a day-to-day basis across 4 brewing locations and our main warehouse facility.
Supervise 9 direct reports and 30 operations employees
Operate all facilities in a uniform manner. Confirm all operations are consistently conducted through established SOPs. Current SOP library contains over 100 SOPs. Must work with team to continually update and if necessary, draft new procedures when necessary
Enforce consistent and efficient standards for operation packaging equipment, including CIP and maintenance
Review production costs and product quality and modify production and inventory control programs to enhance profitability
Audit current processes to maximize efficiency and make continual improvements to quality, safety, profitability, and environmental initiatives
Enforce accurate monitoring and recording QA/QC metrics, brew logs, cellar logs, packaging logs and all records relating to government reporting
Evaluate staff needs and oversee the scheduling of production staff
Review annual document performance plans for production staff and conduct annual performance reviews with senior management
Establish targets and monitor data to improve ongoing analytical performance for consistent process and production
Understand any existing programs and seek to implement new programs for consistency in quality and manufacturing process across four separate locations. 5S implementation not yet competed
Learn use of basic Microsoft 360 package including Outlook, Excel, SharePoint. Learn and use EKOS brewhouse ERP. Learn and use iSolved Human Resource Program. Learn and use Concur financial software.
Maintain monthly reporting of all four facilities for TTB (government) requirements. Execute through team monthly finished goods, WIP, raw materials and other required inventory
Manage maintenance specialist to prioritize and track both preventive maintenance and repairs.
Work with Product Line manager to engage with commercial organization and track progress of innovation projects being executed at Asheville and Charlotte brewhouses
Report weekly to ownership the operating results including orders versus shipments, quality feedbacks, projects, maintenance, personnel and any other relevant operations information
Assist in the training of production staff, including new hires
Lead and/or participate in special projects as required by owners
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a non-CDL DOT physical
- Candidate must have a minimum 4-year degree from an accredited college or university, preferred education in brewing science and management
- 8+ years of operations experience in beverage or a manufacturing environment
- 5+ years of people management experience in a manufacturing environment
- Superior knowledge of industry regulations and operational guidelines
- Strong technology skills with experience at Microsoft 360 suite, iSolved HR software and EKOS Brewmaster ERP or similar such products
