Barrel Culture Brewing & Blending is a small independently owned craft brewery that is rapidly growing, located in Durham, North Carolina. We are looking for an experienced Head Brewer to join our team. The ideal candidate would be someone that loves the evolving culture of craft beer and is passionate about making beer that matters.

The Head Brewer is a full-time position that will report to the ownership team. We have recently expanded our wild beer program to include a clean beer program and opened a production facility in Rocky Mount, NC. The position is responsible for all brewery operations, a clean & wild beer program, including creating a production schedule, creating and developing recipes, brewing recipes, help to grow and then lead and manage a production staff, the oversight of the clean and wild barrel program, overseeing the production of wort, cellar work, and packaging on a daily basis.

The position will be based out of Durham, North Carolina and Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create a production schedule for clean & wild beer program, including creating, developing and brewing recipes

  • Help with growing, leading and managing a team of brewers and cellarman in producing and packaging the highest quality beer in a safe and efficient manner

  • Work closely with the ownership team to ensure all production meets the consistency and standards before release

  • Be proficient in cost analysis reporting of the finished product and work with the ownership team to create prices and budgets

  • Create and uphold standard operating procedures for the production facilities

  • Manage all inventory pertaining to brewing operations

  • Manage upkeep of all brewing, cellar and packaging equipment with the ownership team and relaying needs for equipment as needed

  • Manage wild barrel program and help to grow the clean barrel program

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a professional brewer

  • Experience in the production of mixed fermentation wild ales and managing barrels

  • Management or leadership experience, preferred

  • Formal brewing education, required 

  • A love and passion for craft beer

  • An independent worker with strong work ethic, requiring limited oversight, but still have a desire to work as a team

  • Care to organizational skills

  • Ability to lift 65 lbs and move 175 lbs regularly
