The Compliance Specialist is responsible for compliance processes pertaining to federal, state & local laws and regulations and contractual obligations; communication and reporting to relevant agencies; and coordination with other departments within the company to assist with compliance issues.


Essential Duties (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Take a lead role in the label process to determine necessary state/federal new brand registrations & coordinate required information with Production & Marketing departments to meet beer-to-market release targets.

  • Register federal formulas & COLAs as needed.

  • Monitor, renew & update state & federal permits, licenses, brand registrations, price posting, and bond renewals as appropriate.

  • Work with Production, Marketing & Retail teams to ensure all packaging, labeling & advertising is consistent and compliant. 

  • Prepare New Item Forms/setup new items in distributor & chain account systems.

  • Research potential beer names for conflicts, and apply for trademark & copyright registrations (with outside counsel).

  • Monitor registered trademarks for infringement on a monthly basis and prepare cease & desist letters/escalate to outside counsel as necessary.

  • Maintain additional insured & certificate of insurance status as required by contract & law.

  • Provide trade practice guidelines & training for internal use; update in accordance with changes in law.

  • Process, submit and monitor export drawback claims with the federal government.

  • Maintain organized records of all required filings.

  • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk.

  • Work with the finance team on tax filings and reportings as needed.

  • Assist with contract review as needed.

  • Seek out training to understand and maintain knowledge of current & proposed legislation, regulations & other requirements.


Essential Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of compliance experience in an alcohol industry. 

  • Detail-oriented and work with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to manage and work on multiple projects and tasks. 

  • Ability to handle confidential, financial and personal information appropriately. 

  • Possess strong problem solving skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Mac OS & Quickbooks.

  • Experience with ERP software preferred

  • A legal or accounting background is preferred. 

  • Occasional travel required to trade shows and beer related events.
