Head Brewer Position

We are looking for a creative, organized, and experienced Head Brewer who can contribute to our people and community-oriented approach to craft beer. We strive to empower all employees to think for themselves and solve problems creatively. We seek a self-starting, independent, initiative-taking individual for this position.


This is a full-time, salaried position with the majority of time spent at our production brewery on Treasure Island, Woods Island Club. We have a 15 BBL brewhouse with 30 BBL fermenters and an extensive barrel program. We package in draft and cans to sell at our retail locations and to distribute to bar, restaurant, and off-premise accounts in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Position Requirements

  • Passion for craft beer and the local food and beverage industry

  • At least 5 years experience in production brewery or brewpub environment

  • Proven recipe development skills

  • Previous management experience

  • Detail orientation, critical thinking ability, strong organizational skills, and strong communication skills - written and in-person

  • Strong mechanical and electrical background with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems with the brewery, boiler, chiller, fermenters, packaging line, etc.

  • Ability to lift 175 lbs

  • Reliable transportation

  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Ekos or other brewery management software

Responsibilities

  • Procuring and managing inventory of raw materials including forward contracting hops

  • Managing workplace safety program

  • Developing and maintaining a QC Program with lab procedures including cell counting/viability testing, DO, CO2 and packaged beer testing.

  • Managing and create statement of processes for all production related tasks

  • Performing regular maintenance on all brewhouse equipment

  • Working with Finance Manager to ensure proper accounting of COGS and inventory and timely filing of reports to CDTFA, TTB, ABC

  • Working with retail managers and sales managers to ensure adequate inventory

  • Hiring, training, scheduling, and managing all brewhouse and cellar personnel (we currently have 3 employees in production)

  • Preparing weekly beer pipeline report to inform management and staff of current inventory and new projects

  • Working with marketing team to keep them apprised of production calendar and incorporating market feedback into improving existing and creating new recipes
