My Yard Live (MYL) is an experiential community gathering space bringing together quality food and libations, a brewery, live entertainment, leisure games, activities, and unique experiences for the enjoyment of people of all ages, whether a child or a child at heart.

Position Summary

The Front of House / Venue Manager oversees all operations of the My Yard Live front of house including food runner (aka MYL ambassadors), bartenders, cashiers among others. This position will shape the  MYL-goer’s experience by maintaining the front of house’s appearance, hiring and training quality staff, and ensuring exceptional customer service.

MYL is unique as it will host a variety events and live entertainment throughout the week. The Front of House / Venue Manager will be accountable to support booking and scheduling of live entertainment, family activities, and private events. They will assure scheduled events are coordinated among the customer, artist managers, artists, outside promoters, event organizers, agents and event / venue staff to ensure successful events.

The Front of House / Venue Manager must have strong organization and leadership skills. They also must have a talent for conflict resolution addressing customer complaints and handling staff disputes. This position will be full-time and demands long hours with night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Typical Work

The Front of House / Venue Manager reports to the CEO and COO at My Yard Live San Marcos. The Front of House / Venue Manager will work hours ranging from early morning to late night shifts, as needed. Work days may range from 8-10+ hours per shift depending on MYL needs. Scheduled shifts and days off may vary from week to week (including weekends). The front of house manager is required to work unscheduled shifts with little to no notice given.

Front of House Manager Duties and Responsibilities

Interview and Hire Staff - The Front of House / Venue Manager is responsible for the MYL’s front of house  staff.

Manage Staff Training - MYL staff will need training to meet the specific needs of Company. The Front of House / Venue Manager will schedule and direct training sessions.

Supervise Upkeep of Guest Areas - The Front of House / Venue Manager is responsible for supervising the cleaning and maintenance of guest areas.

Shift Planning - The Front of House / Venue Manager will ensure each shift is properly staffed. The Front of House / Venue Manager will use a preferred scheduling system to assign MYL staff based on anticipated demand. They will also direct staff to handle unexpected situations and customer concerns throughout a shift as needed.

Bar Management and Inventory -  The Front of House / Venue Manager manages the employees and activities of the bar. They ensure beverage quality, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction. The Front of House / Venue Manager coordinates the bar operations, to plan and maintain scheduling and employee responsibilities. They handle the inventory and monitor information from suppliers.

Front of House Manager Skills and Qualifications

Point of sale system experience – The Front of House / Venue Manager is responsible for cash transactions, including refunding customers, providing discounts, and comping items, which will require proficiency with the MYL POS system.

Organizational skills – The Front of House / Venue Manager will  often juggle many responsibilities at a time, so top-notch organizational skills and prioritization skills are required

Training – The Front of House / Venue Manager must have experience in training new staff  

Leadership Skills – It’s the job of the Front of House / Venue Manager to keep staff on task, motivated, and focused. The front of house manager also resolves staff conflicts and customer’s concerns

Management – Hiring, onboarding, off boarding, training, and disciplining staff is the the Front of House / Venue Manager responsibility, so must have strong managerial skills

Customer Service – Dedication to providing excellent customer service and improving the customer experience

Front of House Manager Education and Training

Since this is a management role, general restaurant and bar management experience is required. The Front of House / Venue Manager will receive on-the-job training on restaurant policies, processes, and equipment.
