Job Description National Sales Manager

Blue Mountain Cider is a craft producer of estate ciders located on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley. Blue Mountain Cider produces a range of fresh pressed hard ciders from apples we grow in the Walla Walla valley for our own Blue Mountain Cider label and custom crush clients. We are currently distributed in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Texas and Michigan. Founded in 2003 by the Brown family, who still operate Blue Mountain Cider company today, Blue Mountain Cider is one of the oldest cider producers in the Pacific Northwest.

The National Sales Manager ideally has experience working closely with distributors and their sales staff to increase sales. The National Sales Manager’s main duty is to increase Blue Mountain cider sales through existing distribution and to expand our distribution network into new markets. The National Sales Manager is expected to bring existing distributor relationships with them and to have ideas on how to improve business through brand awareness and in market promotion.

As an in market position the National Sales Manager can live in the city of their choosing and work remotely. However, preference will be given to those based in the Pacific Northwest.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Find new distributors and export markets to greater expand Blue Mountain Cider’s reach and market presence.
  • Analyze data to generate monthly sales reports, and to create sales projections and ABP’s, setting goals for all markets.
  • Recommend and implement sales strategies for improvement based on market research and competitor analyses.
  • Create and maintain strong long-term retail relationships, both on/off premise, targeting regular account calls in region and nationally
  • Conduct market visits and out of region ride alongs with distributor sales reps to develop new sales. Improve sales in existing accounts with training, POS, display, shelf placement/presence, correct pricing, and promotions.
  • Make direct account calls in region, set up and execute cider sales directly to accounts without distributor support.
  • Perform ongoing quality control of cider outside of the cidery. The ability to spot poor rotation, dated or damaged product, and evaluation of overall draft system health and performance is necessary. 
  • Create and implement incentives and other programs to inspire increased sales and encourage growth.
  • Conduct ongoing brand training with retailers, distributor partners, and consumers. 
  • Improve upon and further develop existing systems and procedures for all aspects of sales.
  • Contribute to social media- work with support team to keep customers updated via social media.
  • Write and disseminate company press releases, marketing material, technical information, and maintain relevant content on company website.
  • Coordinate, promote, and attend events and festivals where Blue Mountain Cider are represented.
  • Act as a liaison between distributor partners and in-house cider maker to ensure production schedule meets demand, with an eye on future needs.
  • Plan closely with the production and marketing team to schedule seasonal and limited releases, conduct product launches, and support a production strategy based on sales.
  • Perform administrative tasks as they are needed (expense reports, sales reports, new product forms, chain store documents, label approvals, etc).
  • Assist in picking orders and coordinating shipping and logistics with distributor partners, if other staff is unavailable.
  • Plan, manage time, and prioritize as necessary to align efforts with monthly business objectives, as well as company and department sales growth goals.
  • Work with BMC directors to oversee branding decisions and packaging solutions.

Applicant Expectations:

• Good writing and technology skills with a focus on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various social media platforms.

• Ability to form and accomplish sales goals based on market expectation.

• The commitment to work some nights and weekends as the job entails.

• Work independently and be self-motivated. The job will require an individual who is comfortable working day to day without direct oversight, hand holding, or extensive training.

• Regular travel to existing and new distribution markets.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

• A strong understanding of the craft cider, beer, and wine business, and the ability to effectively sell product in a competitive market.

  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs.

Requirements:

  • Experience in craft cider or beer sales for a supplier or distributor; prior national sales experience preferred
  • BA/BS in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred
  • Must demonstrate strong retail and wholesale-oriented skills, understanding of gross profit, gross margin, pricing strategies, and discounting structures
  • Valid driver's license with a responsible driving record
  • Certified Cider Professional, Sommelier, Cicerone, or similar training preferred but not required. The desire to learn about cider and what makes Blue Mountain unique, and your desire to educate people on our brands is a must.
  • Ability to show successful sales growth with prior employer

Compensation:

Annual base salary depending on experience. Up to an additional 35K in commission and annual bonuses.

PTO, Medical Insurance support, use of company van when necessary, company cell phone, T & E budget, cider and wine discounts from our sister company Watermill Winery

Ability to work remotely with office space available at our production facility in Milton-Freewater Oregon and any future tasting room locations. Relocation support available.
