Director of Sales Position

Utepils Brewing Co. (Utepils) is seeking a director of sales for immediate hire. The director of sales is a core member of the management team and is directly responsible for achieving annual sales growth goals through their direct efforts alongside their sales team. This individual must embody Utepils’ core values of demonstrating ethical behaviors, supporting our community and staff, taking responsibility for your actions, and most importantly, having fun.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set annual sales goals in alignment with the management team and create an action plan to achieve them

  • Recruit, train, mentor and motivate our team of sales representatives to meet individual and team goals

  • Personally open accounts, grow, and expand sales within on and off premise accounts

  • Develop the skills of our “Street Team”, or brand ambassadors, and utilize their skill sets through on- and off-premise tastings

  • Maintain open communication with management on progress, challenges and opportunities. Suggest improvements to help reach sales goals with weekly, monthly and quarterly reports

  • Work cooperatively to build strong relationships with our third-party distribution partner(s) and their staff to ensure best performance and brand support

  • Participate in planning a release calendar, beer rollout plans and review of marketing materials. Provide ongoing guidance in planning and marketing efforts to ensure sales department is fully supported

  • Curate, coordinate, staff and promote events to showcase the Utepils brand

  • Communicate effectively with team; attend meetings, record sales calls with our CRM, and respond promptly to email, phone calls and messages

  • Establish a positive brand image for Utepils Brewing Co., its products and team members to enhance reputation

  • Attend tastings, events and festivals to ensure strong brand awareness


Skills & Competencies

  • 5+ years of experience in sales management, specifically in the beverage market

  • Demonstrated sales success in the craft beer market

  • Experience in working effectively as a team leader and manager

  • Ability and willingness to develop team members to reach team goals

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Operational knowledge of third-party beer and beverage distribution systems, and Minnesota alcohol/beer laws and regulations

  • Ability to see the big picture and translate into sales action plans, foresee resource needs, and work cooperatively with Utepils staff, distribution staff, industry vendors, and retailers

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, and Gmail

  • Clean driving record and access to your own reliable vehicle

Department Resources

Utepils Brewing Co has created a strong brand respected for high quality and delicious beers.  The department is staffed with three Sales Representatives and supported by our distribution company’s sales team.  Street teams are operating in the Twin Cities and Duluth markets to support retailers.  Utepils maintains a strong and active social media presence.  Our Taproom is a highly successful operation that builds consumer connections and is a dramatic venue to bring retailers to visit.  It provides a clear example of our commitment to quality and our brand focus on brewing classic European beer styles.

Good brewing starts with honoring the traditions of brewers who have gone before us. Our beer is brewed using the highest quality water from the historic Glenwood Inglewood wells to produce beer that is classic yet uniquely distinct. Using tried and true brewing practices, we’re creating a new tradition in the Twin Cities that brings friends and families together share good times and great beer.

Utepils Brewing Co opened in February 2017 with a clear commitment to brew delicious European styles of beer using the highest quality ingredients traditional to the style’s origins.  We installed a custom built 50 bbl Esau & Hueber fully automated brew house and put it in the hands of award winning head brewer, Eric Harper.  Our expansive Taproom gives us a perfect opportunity to present our beers to the public in the best possible way.  Situated just one mile from downtown Minneapolis, the brewery sits on the bank of Bassett Creek and is surrounded on all sides by parkland.  We can our beer in a dedicated packaging hall to ensure the highest quality control.
