Job Overview

The Lead Brewer is responsible for assisting the Head Brewer in leading the brewing and packaging team and coordinating materials to produce top quality and consistent beer. The Lead Brewer will help oversee and manage the brewing team on a day to day basis, at the direction of the Head Brewer.

 General Responsibilities

  • Manage brewing and cellaring schedule in support of production needs.  Create staffing plans and oversee tasks performed by all brewing, cellaring, and packaging staff members
  • Develop, institute, and maintain quality assurance program to ensure that beers produced are consistent and of the highest quality
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a continuous improvement program in regards to existing recipes.  Adjust and fine tune existing recipes as needed to improve the overall quality, shelf life, and consistency of each beer
  • Provide estimates and recommendations for forecasting procurement needs of futures contracts on raw ingredients
  • Serve as primary point of contact for our brewery material suppliers, and mediate any quality and supply issues Oversee ordering and manage inventory control for all raw ingredients and brewery supplies
  • Oversee staff development plans and support the continuing education of all production staff
  • Oversee the implementation of Mother Earth’s safety program at the brewery
  • Maintain constant communication with operations management team on any issues and their development
  • Organize and unite the team on focused goals inside the brewery. Prioritize, clarify and follow through with department goals and objectives with production staff so they understand, unite and achieve
  • Continuously research, analyze, and recommend new and innovative processes and equipment that improve the quality or profitability of Mother Earth beer
  • Develop and oversee implementation of Mother Earth Standard Operating Procedures for all production processes, including brewing, cellaring, packaging, quality control, cleaning and sanitization
  • Participate in Mother Earth events where needed and represent our brewery with professionalism and passion


  • Management experience
  • Bachelors degree or higher in Science or Engineering, or equivalent years of experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Full understanding of beer science, brew house, and cellar operations
  • Strong verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Absolute passion for brewing and beer
  • Ability to lift 55 pounds repetitively
  • Forklift certified
