We are looking for an experienced sales manager responsible for overseeing Allagash sales activities within the state of California. This includes building and managing relationships with wholesalers, motivating a strong field sales team within territory, managing budgets, and carrying out strategic plans for building our brand in California.

This role requires stellar communication skills, and experience managing a remote team. There is extensive communication with wholesalers, both in person, over the telephone, and via email and other written mediums.   This person will take brewery objectives and ensure their application in the California area, working with on and off premise chains, as well as working with sales management and team to develop annual wholesaler goals in conjunction with overall brand strategy.   Skills are needed for identifying strategic opportunities to enhance the Allagash brand through effective events, focus periods and sponsorships, and nurturing those relationships. There is a strong collaboration with our marketing department, ensuring alignment and support for sales team.

During Annual Business Plan meetings, strong presentation and negotiation skills are needed. On a quarterly basis, recapping trends in writing and conducting quarterly business reviews on annual goals keep everyone in the loop with where things stand.  During brewery sales meetings, this role may be asked to conduct trainings and presentations.

A strong financial accumen is necessary, as this role is responsible for creating budgets in line with brewery goals, and monitoring wholesaler, brewery, and sales team spends in the territory. In addition, you will have the opportunity to design incentives to drive sales for the Allagash and wholesaler local teams. Understanding of key compliance issues is also a piece of this job, working closely with internal resources. 

As a member of the Allagash sales team, this role will demonstrate a best-of-industry commitment to quality, through continual assessment of beer freshness in the trade, and assisting with regular inspections of wholesaler warehouses to ensure proper product rotation, storage and QC standards. 

Supervision of the California based Allagash team includes leading the interviewing, hiring and training process of all direct reports, conducting twice yearly performance reviews, and giving continuous feedback. It is also expected that you will periodically provide trainings in the field for wholesaler reps.

Expectations are that this role will continually look to improve processes and procedures, and encourage others to do the same.  

 
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree is required, as is minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in beer sales required. Candidates with previous experience managing a team, particularly remote team members, will be given highest priority. Must possess valid US driver’s license and be comfortable with extensive travel throughout the state of California, and back to Maine numerous times per year. Superior computer skills are needed as we are heavily reliant on Lilypad, iDig, and VIP, as well as Google suite.
