Kentucky Craft Bash to be the first eco-friendly brewing festival

The Kentucky Guild of Brewer’s inaugural Kentucky Craft Bash taking place on Saturday 24 June, has teamed up with Petainer to help the event go ‘green’. Petainer, the market leader in innovative PET packaging, is supplying the breweries taking part in the Bash with its fully recyclable PET petainerKeg™ for free.

The event, sponsored by HopCat the ‘anti-chain’ chain, is taking place at Louisville Waterfront Park’s Festival Plaza, and will feature over 30 breweries from Kentucky. Over 2,000 visitors are expected to come along and sample more than 70 varieties of beer, including some experimental beers and those rarely found outside a brewery’s taproom or brewpub.

When all the beer has been drunk, the beer kegs will be recycled, cutting out energy-consuming return logistics and washing, thereby reducing carbon emissions and saving valuable water - a one-way PET keg uses 12L less water than a traditional steel keg.

Commenting on the partnership, Derek Selznick, Executive Director of the Kentucky Brewer’s Guild said: “It is great news that Petainer is supporting our event. We want it to be a great experience for beer-lovers but not at the expense of the environment. Petainer’s kegs will help us host the first ever eco-friendly brewing festival in Kentucky.”

Marc Kibbey, Executive Vice-President, North America, Petainer, said: “Petainer has a strong focus on sustainability and delivering economic benefits for its customers. It is great to see this being put into practice at an event of this scale where petainerKeg™ will be used by the breweries taking part.”
