Discovery Channel to Premiere Beer Special

New York- The Discovery Channel is airing a new documentary on Sunday Night entitled 'How Beer Saved the World."

Alan Eyres, an Executive Producer with Discovery, is the man who started it all. Eyres casually mentioned a bit of beer history in a pitch meeting back in April of 2009 and that's when 'How Beer Saved the World' was born.

"I believe it's all my fault," he joked.

Eyres said that he kept the idea brewing in the back of his mind for a while.

"The interesting thing was that we didn't do anything for about a year," he said. "I didn't want to make the film until I found the perfect production firm."

After chatting with John Luscombe and finally settling on his production company, "Beyond," Eyres green-lit the project in May of 2010 and just wrapped up post-production two weeks ago.

This special presentation is taking a historic look at the role beer has played in the development of the world. Eyres said that a wide range of topics will be covered including medicine, economics, agriculture and even the tune to the 'Star Spangled Banner.'

"Beer had turned up and either subtly or very significantly altered the course of history," said Eyres. "Nobody had brought the experts together and given them the chance to tell the complete history of humanity from the point of view of beer."

'How Beer Saved the World' will have a running time of 60 minutes (with commercials) and can be seen at 8:00 and 11:00 P.M. on both coasts.
