Southern Barrel Brewing Co. – Full-time Head Brewer / Brew Master

Southern Barrel Brewing Co in Bluffton, SC is looking for a highly-motivated, hard-working Head brewer to join our fast-growing brewery team. This position is for individuals with a heightened attention to detail and a focus on achieving excellence in quality. It’s essential that our brewers can think critically, problem solve, execute tasks precisely in a fast-paced environment, and communicate effectively. Desires to research, learn, and constantly improve your knowledge base and skill set is a must. Southern Barrel Brewing Co. is an award winning brewery that distributes in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, And Florida.

Responsibilities
• Milling, Malt Handling
• Executing weekly wort production on a 20bbl 3-vessel Brewhouse (JVNW)
• Recording detailed data on brewhouse operations

• Operate Cask canning line with Paktech Topper

  • Cleaning of beer lines for tavern

  • Giving detailed beer tour/ class to all new employees

       Facilitation your own beer test to new employees

       Coaching all front of house employees to Cicerone beer server test
    • Staging raw materials, ensuring all inventory necessary is available for production
    • Yeast Pitching/Management/tracking
    • Fermentation Management: Gravities, Dry Hopping, Carbonating, Dropping, etc.
    • Ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of all areas related to wort production (brewhouse, mill room, raw material storage, etc.)
    • Must prioritize safety of yourself and other team members at all times and strive to constantly improve the safety of your work environment
    • Participate in regular deep cleaning efforts around the brewery
    • Research and bring forward the best ideas about process and quality improvement
    • Participate in scheduled in-house maintenance and upkeep

• Receiving and storing raw materials at our service area, loading trucks
• May be required to aid in packaging or cellar responsibilities
• This is not an exhaustive list and applicants should be ready and willing to lend a hand where necessary to ensure our growing production operates accurately and smoothly

Requirements
• 3+ years of experience in wort production
• Full Availability throughout the week with a flexible schedule
• Ability to think critically and multitask
• Ability to operate a forklift
• Ability to lift 55+ lbs regularly
• Ability to safely handle concentrated cleaning chemicals on a regular basis
• Ability to crouch, sit, stand, pull, push, bend, and/or twist while working in confined, wet, hot, and/or cold environments
• Ability to stand for an entire shift
• Ability to climb and work on a ladder

Experience in the following is a big plus!

  • Double seam can evaluation and understanding

  • Proficient use of microscope and hemocytometer

  • TTB tax filing

  • Barrel aging

  • Sour barrel aging and blending

  • Lager brewing techniques

  • Familiar with cartridges filtering and regeneration of filters
