Brewbound Review:
Smuttynose certainly doesn’t mess around when it comes to their BIG BEER series and Baltic Porter doesn’t disappoint. Baltic Porter is an incredibly well made beer with no frills, something that often goes unnoticed in an industry that prides itself on style innovation. This beer pours a jet black in color with a frothy mocha-colored heads that refuses to dissipate. Chocolate, roasted malts and a hint of coffee dominate the nose alongside a heavy scent of alcohol. Taste is what you would expect - lots of chocolate on the front of the palate, coffee and roast flavors through the middle and a warm alcohol burn on the way down. A medium body with the perfect amount of carbonation makes this an incredibly enjoyable drink. Overall, this is one of those “warming” beers. Something you break out for that first winter storm or a Friday night in watching a movie. At only 8.7 percent, it’s certainly not the ‘biggest’ in the BIG BEER series, but it still packs a punch. The label suggests you “share with your camrades,” and so do we. The 22 oz. serving format is great for sampling, especially with boozy offerings in the BIG BEER series.
