CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Unknown Brewing Company, located in Charlotte’s South End, is staying true to its commitment of keeping it weird with the release of its 2016 Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) series beer, Dos AK’s, on Wednesday, November 2. The Mexican-style stout will be sold in 22-ounce bottles and available on draft in The Unknown’s taproom to celebrate the official Day of the Dead.

Dos AK’s LabelInspired by two moles from the Oaxaca region of Mexico, Dos AK’s features a blend of traditional ale yeast and Mexican lager yeast as a base. The unique brew in this annual series has a 9.2% alcohol by volume (ABV) content and was brewed with cacao nibs, chipotle peppers, coriander, poblano peppers, cinnamon, grains that mimic the taste of raisins, and hops that have a taste akin to pineapple.

“This is probably one of the best damn beers I’ve ever made,” said The Unknown Brewing Company Owner, Brad Shell. “The Unknown’s Day of the Dead series has grown to feature some of our most highly anticipated brews because people know that we’re going to turn it up another notch every year.”

Brewed while playing mariachi music, this is The Unknown Brewing Company’s third beer in its annual Día de los Muertos series. Previous Day of the Dead releases include “La Jordana del Escorpion en Fuego Hacia la Casa del Chupacabra Muerto,” which roughly translates to “The Path of the Fiery Scorpion through the House of the Dead Chupacabra,” a Mexican imperial lager brewed with 99 real scorpions; and “El Corazon Que Sangra Morado”, or “The Heart That Bleeds Purple.”

To try Dos AK’s, visit The Unknown Brewing Company at 1327 South Mint Street in Charlotte, NC on November 2. Dos AK’s will be bottled and packaged in only 50 cases available in North Carolina and in limited keg release in South Carolina and Georgia.
