Startup Brewery Raises Funds Through Internet

Horseshoe Bend BrewingAnother craft startup is using an online fundraising platform to fuel their dreams of building a microbrewery.

The husband and wife team of Chris and Carrie Case are using the ‘crowdfunding’ website, IndieGoGo, to raise money for Horseshoe Bend Brewing Co., located in Lake of the Ozarks, MO.

The couple is well on their way too, with $4,125 of their $15,000 goal already raised and 35 days left to campaign.

Unlike Kickstarter, another popular ‘crowdfunding’ website, IndieGoGo is not an ‘all-or-nothing’ platform. This means that the Case’s will be able to keep whatever they raise, even if they fall short of their $15,000 goal.

“We chose IndieGoGo because it’s modeled more for small business startups and if we don’t reach our goal we can still keep whatever we have raised,” said Carrie Case.

Chris Case, an executive chef of 20 years, began homebrewing while Carrie was pregnant. Now, two years later, the Case’s are looking to cash in on the craft beer boom and bring a brewery to the Lake — something they say hasn’t been done in over a decade.

“We are only three hours from St. Louis,” said Case. “This is ‘Bud’ country, so it’s going to be a tough but we have a lot of people interested in seeing this thing happen.”

They hope to take the $15,000 from the IndieGoGo campaign and use it to secure a bank loan.

Horseshoe Bend Brewing will initially be available on draught-only but the couple eventually hope to package their beers for wider distribution. Case said their flagship brew with be a hefeweizen.
