When you think of classic fall seasonal offering, pumpkin immediately comes to mind. Bison Organic takes a different approach with their Gingerbread Ale.
This beer pours a dark brown color with a slight red hue. Surprise, it smells like gingerbread! If you dig a little deeper, you will notice notes of caramel, cinnamon and nutmeg.
The taste is a bit underwhelming, though the obvious gingerbread flavor is there. A nice malty sweetness is present, and it tastes a bit like eating a sweet gingerbread cookie. This beer is light to medium bodied at best and the finish sort of lacks and ‘punch.’
Regardless, the beer is enjoyable and keeps us coming back for sip after sip in search of something more. Bison does a nice job of balancing flavor with the 6.0% ABV.
Overall, we enjoyed the offering, but like most Organic beers, something is missing.
