Pints For Prostates to Offer Free Men’s Health Screening at 2015 GABF

GABF

Denver, Colo. – During this year’s Great American Beer Festival®, Pints for Prostates, in collaboration with the Prostate Conditions Education Council, and 1400 Miles, will offer a free men’s health screening event for brewing industry members and beer fans attending the event.

The Brewers Health Initiative is designed to reach men through the universal language of beer, giving them a free, quick and easy way to take charge of their health. A team of healthcare professionals will administer a simple blood test taking approximately 10 minutes to screen for prostate specific antigen, glucose, lipids and testosterone levels. Participants will receive a confidential report sent directly to them after the event that they can review with their doctor. The blood tests being run have a value of $700 and scan for several important male health issues.

The Brewers Health Initiative will operate on Wednesday (Sept. 23) and Thursday (Sept. 24) from Noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday (Sept. 26) from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the corner of 14th Street and Stout Street under a tent adjacent to The Beerliner in the Focus Parking lot, across from the Colorado Convention Center, site of the GABF. On Friday (Sept. 25) the men’s health screening will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. adjacent to the McNichols Civic Center Building at 144 W. Colfax, the site of the Denver Rare Beer Tasting VII.

“We’ve been using the universal language of beer to reach men with an important health message since 2008. The brewing community has been a strong supporter of this effort and the Brewers Health Initiative is a great way of showing how much we appreciate the part they have played,” said Rick Lyke, founder of Pints for Prostates. “Working with the Prostate Conditions Education Council and 1400 Miles will help expose our message to thousands of men attending the Great American Beer Festival. We hope to screen dozens of men each day.”

Pints for Prostates is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity and funds raised go towards the group’s awareness mission and help to fund the education and support programs of the Us TOO International Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, and free prostates cancer screening programs provided by the Prostate Conditions Education Council.

About 1400 Miles

1400 Miles uses bikes and craft beers to spark difficult conversations with stubborn guys about prostate health. 1400 Miles was founded in July of 2013, by NXNW Restaurant and Brewery owner Davis Tucker, after witnessing his best friend and head of brewery operations, Don Thompson’s fight with prostate cancer. 1400 Miles became a non-profit that probes the conversation on prostate health. As an organization, 1400 Miles raises money in efforts to engage male audiences through content-based strategies using bikes and beer as the catalyst to be proactive about prostate health. 1400 Miles serves as a “get checked” pre-diagnosis organization.
