RALEIGH, N.C. – Mims Distributing Company, a leading North Carolina wholesale beverage distributor, has announced the release of Ad Idem, a new craft beer brewed through a first-time collaboration between Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina and The Lost Abbey in San Diego. Over the last year, these two breweries each have produced three unique beers all aged in oak barrels and perfected by the final blend. Ad Idem, in the end, is a French oak-aged golden sour ale with a copious amount of peaches.

“Ad Idem seamlessly combines flavors of the West Coast with inspiration from the South,” said Chip Mims, CEO of Mims Distributing Company. “North Carolina craft beer fans will certainly enjoy this expertly crafted oak-aged golden sour ale with Brett and peach flavors, and it is our privilege to play a part in delivering it to them.”

The intent of this unique brew was to blend the bold flavors of three distinct beers into one new creation. Wicked Weed brewed a golden peach sour, the first of the three beers, in December of 2014. In February 2015, The Lost Abbey crew made its way from California to Asheville to brew the second beer – a Brettanomyces blonde ale. One month later, Wicked Weed brewers and brothers Walt and Luke Dickinson traveled to San Diego to brew the last of the three beers – a spontaneously fermented (using the natural yeast and bacteria in the air) golden sour ale. The combination of these three beers creates the first edition of Ad Idem, with talks of future editions as well.

“Tomme Aurthur and the Lost Abbey literally founded this style of beer in the US, without Lost Abbey there would be no Wicked Weed Funkatorium. Working with Tomme and his team on this project was an honor and helped yield something that is truly unique and is a beautiful expression of the two breweries’ perspectives on sour beer,” said Walt Dickinson, Head Blender/Owner at Wicked Weed Brewing.

“From the moment we agreed on this conceptual blend, the goal for Ad Idem was a synergy of brewing thought and methods,” said Tomme Aurthur of The Lost Abbey. “This project is about like-minds and spirits converging on one concept to create a vision that will continue to grow throughout the years.”
