MIDDLETON, WI – It did not take long for Capital Brewery to break through the 200 medal barrier. Capital Brewery broke the mark with a gold medal for Capital Oktoberfest at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) held annually in Denver, CO.
The event is presented by the Brewers Association and is the largest commercial beer competition in the world. 222 beer experts from 10 countries evaluated 5,507 entries from 1,309 breweries from all over the United States.
“I am always proud of the hard work and dedication that our brewing staff puts into all of our products, but it is especially gratifying that the judges at the GABF recognized their efforts as well,” stated Brian Destree, Capital Brewery Operations Manager and Brewmaster.
“Capital Oktoberfest continues to be a highly sought after brand by consumers. It was introduced at retail outlets in early August and the brewery sold out of bottles and cans in less than 6 weeks. Capital Oktoberfest is known as ‘The Mother of all Seasonal Beers’ produced by Capital and possesses a fiery amber hue and rich malty overtones that dominate the flavor. It won the gold in the ‘German-Style Marzen’ category, and is true to this traditional style. Capital Oktoberfest is available in 12 ounce 12-pack bottles, 12 ounce 6 pack bottles and 12 ounce 12 pack cans as well as on draught. Next on deck in the seasonal line up is the acclaimed Capital Winter Skal.
Founded on March 14, 1984, Capital brewed its first batch of beer in the spring of 1986. The company has received over 200 major awards in both domestic and international competitions in over 15 categories, and the beer has been available in cans since 1997. Capital was named Grand National Champion in the 2013 US Open Beer Championship, winning six medals.
