Portland, Ore. – BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest brewery, announced today that Long Ball Ale won gold in the English-Style Gold Ale/Summer Ale category at this year’s European Beer Star Awards held in Doemens Brewing Academy in Gräfelfing, near Munich, Germany. Long Ball Ale, dry-hopped with Meridian hops from Willamette Valley, is a golden ale with refreshing lemon notes crafted by Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton.

The European Beer Star Awards is considered the Champions League of the international brewery world. This year, 115-member jury, made up of master brewers, beer sommeliers and recognized beer experts from 27 countries judged 1,957 beers from 45 countries. Based on criteria that consumers also use to judge a beer, The European Beer Star panel evaluates optical impression, foam, aroma, taste and brand-specific characteristics.

“Long Ball Ale is a light, refreshing golden ale and a fan-favorite summer beer here in Oregon,” states Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton. “This is one of the most challenging beer competitions, worldwide. We’re extremely honored that the judges at European Beer Star Awards agreed with Oregonians and awarded Long Ball Ale with a gold medal.

This isn’t BridgePort Brewing’s first win at the European Beer Star competition. Conviction, otherwise known as Trilogy 3 took home the gold medal in 2014 and Summer Squeeze, a seasonal summer brew, won a gold medal in 2012.
