Bagby Beer Signs Oceanside Property Lease

OCEANSIDE, CA — The much-anticipated Bagby Beer project got closer to realization today when it agreed to terms to lease the property at 601 S. Coast Highway. Co-creators and owners Jeff Bagby (who will also serve as head brewer), and Dande Bagby (Operations Manager) are anticipating construction on the 11,000 square foot brewery and restaurant to begin early 2013.

Bagby is best known as head brewer and Director of Brewery Operations for San Diego county’s Pizza Port Breweries from 2005-11. During that stint, he also lead the company to three national ‘Best Large Brewpub’ titles per the craft brewing industry’s annual Great American Beer Festival. Bagby resigned from that role January 1 to begin work on the Bagby Beer project.

Said native San Diegan Bagby, “With true, innovative local craft breweries Ballast Point, Green Flash, Alesmith, and Stone already brewing in San Diego, we are proud to soon be able to add our project to an already esteemed group.”

High-level, here’s what the next few months might look like (not necessarily in this order):
– Architect renderings and finalize design
– Settle on and order brewing system
– Engineering reports
– City approvals & permits
– ABC Licensing
– Settle on ‘F, F & E” (fixtures, furniture, equipment)
– Start buildout

In January 2011, Bagby was named by San Diego Magazine as one of the ‘Top 50 People to Watch’ in San Diego.
