Press Release: Total Beverage Solution expands its portfolio

MT. PLEASANT, SC – Beverage importer and supplier Total Beverage Solution (TBS) expands its portfolio in the first quarter of 2011. The company announces exclusive importation rights to Belgian beer labels Maes Pils and Mort Subite, both brewed by Alken-Maes brewery.

Maes Pils was first brewed in 1946, after the sons of the Maes brewery founder noticed their guests’ desire for a low-fermented beer. It is a full-bodied blonde lager produced with high-quality malt and Saaz hop.

“It has a nice golden color and rich head with a light flowery nose and subtley hoppy,” comments Scott Blair, owner of Small Bar and Hamilton’s Tavern in San Diego, Calif., two of the first accounts to pour Maes Pils in the US. “It’s exciting to see Maes get recognition as another Belgium-born pilsner, which was one of the most readily available beers when I went to Belgium in 1999. I really thought San Diego Hop Heads would find this beer to be a great palate cleanser before diving back into our extreme styles of West Coast beers.I think the customer reaction is fairly evident in the high volume we have poured at Small Bar.”

Mort Subite produces two styles of lambic beer: Blanche and Kriek. Both are brewed according to the centuries-old recipe of spontaneously fermented lambic from malt, wheat, and hops and ripened in oak barrels. Kriek features delicious fresh cherries added to the oak barrels, which gives the beer its unique traditional cherry taste.

Ryan Sweeney owns Verdugo and The Surly Goat in Los Angeles and features both Maes Pils and Mort Subite at his bars. After visiting the Mort Subite Brewery in Belgium, he is excited for Americans to experience “a lighter, nonaggressive sour beer no one else has, or has ever seen.” Sweeney continues, “I travel all over the world tasting beers, and I hounded the distributor to get Mort Subite when I found out it was coming to the States. This beer is special; there is nothing like it.”
