We’re now hiring for two full-time Assistant Manager positions located in our new 10,000 square foot taproom and brewery at 933 Louise Avenue in Charlotte, NC, in the Plaza Midwood/Belmont neighborhood.

Primary Duties

  • Manager-on-duty during peak taproom hours (coordinate with other Assistant Manager to ensure all hours are covered), responsible for day to day troubleshooting and addressing any customer issues that occur
  • Will work some bartending hours during peak times (average 8-10 hours per week)
  • Ensure staff compliance and correct procedures in place to abide by all ALE (Alcohol Law Enforcement Division of the NC Department of Public Safety) laws
  • Work with general manager to maintain budget, track sales, and revenue
  • Administer receipts process, responsibility for cash in/out and reporting as required
  • Be a leader; Help contribute in creating and establishing a strong culture and close team of employees

One Assistant Manager will focus on beer inventory/mgmt tasks, and another Assistant Manager will focus on communications/vendor-scheduling matters. 

Assistant Manager (focused on beer inventory/mgmt tasks). Primary duties also include: 

  • Order beer for the Charlotte taproom; regularly monitor supply/demand for each brand to ensure proper inventory levels
  • Research and recommend taproom stock of wine and cider brands, build and maintain appropriate selection and re-evaluate selection on a quarterly basis
  • Establish procedures and planning for small batch beer roll-outs for beers that will be produced at the Charlotte 10-bbl brewhouse
  • Maintain appropriate stock of consumables and communicate with vendor regularly to keep adequate stock
  • Clean draft lines every 10-14 days
  • Develop protocols for regular and proper maintenance of draft system

Assistant Manager (focused on communications/event-planning/vendor scheduling tasks). Primary duties also include: 

  • Responsible for finding the right entertainment and scheduling, handling all logistics, and developing effective marketing/PR programs to attract customers during our on-site entertainment events
  • Coordinate and schedule regular food trucks on site
  • Generate plans to bring in groups (corporate meetings, small group parties, etc). Create a proposal to share with general manager and an action plan for implementing
  • Assist with social media and PR activities for Catawba Charlotte
  • Assist with merchandise tracking, ordering, and record-keeping

Work expectations

  • Must have scheduling flexibility and particularly be willing/ready to work weekends and evenings
  • Represent Catawba at outside events as needed and encourage staff to participate in off-site events and work at festivals, show up at tap takeovers and other events that are organized by sales team

Experience and skills necessary to excel in this role

  • Prior bartending experience required – you will have a strong understanding of the key roles in the brewery/service industry, plans to ensure efficient running of taproom operation, and be a leader to staff
  • Requires at least 2 years prior management experience, work experience in brewery or bar that specializes in craft beer preferred
  • Knowledge of beer technical matters
  • Prior experience working with draft systems and cleaning draft lines is necessary for assistant manager position focused on beer inventory and management
  • Prior experience in event planning in some capacity is required for assistant manager position focused on communications and event organizing tasks
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing manner
  • Respectful, attentive and professional at all times
  • Strong knowledge of the Catawba brand
  • Excellent communicator
  • Use initiative, be proactive, and work independently
  • Successful problem solving skills; able to deal with conflicts that may arise between staff or customers and ensure those conflicts are worked out
  • Must have the ability to lift kegs up to 60 pounds
  • Preferably have qualification as a Certified Beer Server and/or Certified Cicerone
  • Be able to multi-task and pay attention to detail
