Commercial Description:

Declaration is a Belgian Style IPA which packs a hop presence we’ve never seen in this style before. There is a massive hops profile from our heavy-handed dosing of American hops, yet still enough room for our Belgian yeast to make an appearance. Dark golden in color and light in body, Declaration will dry you out and make you want more with each sip....Read More

Brewbound Review:

Backlash Beer Company’s third installment in their lineup is Declaration, a Belgian style IPA that relies heavily on the hop additions. Though the brand is young and has produced just 75 barrels of beer-to-date, they have earned a core following in the Boston market and have improved with each batch. Declaration might be their best offerings yet. It pours a dark golden color with a frothy, off-white head. On the nose, a predictable “Belgian funk,” is easily detectable amidst an array of hops. Citrus notes like lemon and grapefruit shine past a much more subtle alcohol presence. Declaration is a Belgian IPA that isn’t afraid to let the hops be the stars of the show. While that traditional Belgian yeast character is there, it’s much less forward than some other offerings in the category – which we love. A fairly light body that is incredibly dry begs you to take another sip, but be careful; this beer is in fact 7.2 percent despite its sessionable feel. As far as Belgian IPAs are concerned, this one is unique – something we always look for in a beer. Declaration is incredibly dry, so make sure you have a glass of water nearby. The white, wax-dipped bottle is also aesthetically pleasing, which should also help this beer standout on the shelf.
