Light Lager and American Lager Gain Share on Drizly; RTDs Surpass Hard Seltzer in Share

Light lager (+9%) and American lager (+19%) both grew share of sales on e-commerce alcohol delivery platform Drizly over Labor Day weekend compared to the holiday weekend in 2021, the company reported.

Lagers’ prominence was evident in Drizly’s top-selling beer brands between September 1-5:

  1. Bud Light (Anheuser-Busch InBev)
  2. Corona (Constellation Brands)
  3. Coors (Molson Coors)
  4. Michelob (A-B)
  5. Miller (Molson Coors)
  6. Modelo (Constellation)
  7. Budweiser (A-B)
  8. Heineken
  9. Stella Artois (A-B)
  10. Voodoo Ranger (New Belgium).

Despite the IPA-centric Voodoo Ranger family cracking the top 10 best-selling beer brands, the IPA segment’s share of beer category orders on Drizly declined -10% compared to 2021, Drizly said. Non-alcoholic beer increased share by +20% compared to Labor Day weekend in 2021.

The hard seltzer segment accounted for 3.8% of Drizly orders, down from the 4.6% share it held during the holiday weekend in 2021.

Mark Anthony Brands’ White Claw was the best-selling hard seltzer on Drizly, followed by Boston Beer Company’s Truly Hard Seltzer, Molson Coors’ Topo Chico Hard Seltzer, A-B’s Bud Light Seltzer, Molson Coors’ Vizzy Hard Seltzer, Diageo’s Lone River Ranch Water, Happy Dad, A-B’s Michelob Ultra Organic Seltzer, Constellation’s Corona Hard Seltzer and Press Spiked Seltzer.

Spirits-based, ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktails recorded +40% share growth and accounted for 4.2% of Drizly sales during the weekend, officially passing hard seltzers in share.

E. & J. Gallo’s High Noon Sun Sips was the best-selling RTD, followed by A-B’s Cutwater Spirits, Beam Suntory’s On The Rocks, Jose Cuervo, The Long Drink, 1800 Tequila, Buzzballz, A-B’s NÜTRL, Fishers Island Lemonade and Diageo’s Loyal 9 Cocktails.

Within spirits, the tequila segment increased share +14% during the holiday weekend compared to the same period last year.
