Brewbound Review:

February has come and that means the return of Monk's Blood! What can we say about this beer other than it is delightful. It pours a deep ruby red/brown color with a minimal amount of head. Smells are easy on this one, with an incredible amount of sweet malts and dried fruits coming through on the nose (probably prune or fig). A word of caution, serving this beer closer to room temperature is best. When it is cold, the high ABV (8.3%) is much more noticeable. However, if you let this beer warm, the flavors round out, the alcohol is much more masked and the drinking experience is all the more enjoyable. This is a great representation of the classic Abbey Ale, or Belgian Dark Strong Ale. The Abbey yeast strain is particularly noticeable and the oak-aging really adds a nice dry finish that completes the beer. This beer is only available for a limited time, so it would be in your best interest to pick up a four-pack ASAP!

Very well done! Pours a beautiful black ruby color and has a wonderful nose... Looking forward to many more before this keg blows!

21A does it again! I had been waiting for this beer to come out and so glad I was able to pick some up. A 4-pack goes for about 12 bucks, so I knew it had to be pretty good...I was right. I am normally a pretty big fan on dubbels and this one is done very accurately to the style. Fruity and sweet malts with a high abv that is hardly noticeable! Get your hands on this before it is all gone!

Loved this beer the first time I sampled it and I've been awaiting it's release. Incredibly well balanced beer. Sweet malts, wood, no alcohol burn...delicious!
